Sara Bareilles to star in Broadway's 'Waitress: The Musical'

Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles is set to join the cast of Broadway's Waitress: The Musical.

Bareilles is to begin her 10-week run on March 31. She made the announcement while wearing a waitress uniform and "Jenna" nametag in a brief video released on social media Thursday.

The recording artist wrote the music and lyrics for the show about a pregnant, small-town pie baker, who is trapped in a dead-end marriage and falls in love with her obstetrician.

The stage musical, which opened on Broadway last year, is based on a 2007 movie starring Keri Russell, Jeremy Sisto and Nathan Fillion. Jessie Mueller originated the role of Jenna in the Broadway production of Waitress.
