Britney Spears says niece Maddie has left the hospital

Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Britney Spears says her 8-year-old niece Maddie has left the Louisiana hospital where she was treated for days after an ATV accident.

"So grateful that Maddie was able to go home today," Spears tweeted Friday. "It's truly a miracle. Our prayers were heard, and they were answered! Thank you so much for all of your love and support this week. My family appreciates it more than you will ever know."

Maddie is the daughter of the entertainer's younger sister, actress and singer Jamie Lynn Spears.

The child was driving an ATV on her family's property last Sunday afternoon when she veered into a pond while trying to avoid a drainage ditch. She reportedly was under water for about two minutes while her mother and stepfather struggled to free her from her seatbelt on the submerged vehicle.

Paramedics resuscitated Maddie and she was airlifted to a hospital. She regained consciousness mid-day Tuesday and the doctors treating her said she has since been awake and talking.

They also said it appears she has not suffered any neurological consequences from the accident.
