Feb. 3 (UPI) -- New 24: Legacy star Corey Hawkins says he was lucky to get advice and blessings from former star Kiefer Sutherland.
"Me and Kiefer have talked and we talked extensively— I won't say everything we talked about—but the gist of it is he is super pumped," Hawkins said while speaking with Fox News.
"He was almost more pumped about it than I was about it. And he is really excited about this new idea and Kiefer gave me a lot of great advice in terms of going through this as an actor because it is really challenging," he continued.
Sutherland famously portrayed Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer for 9 seasons on 24 from 2001-2014 including a limited 12 episode series.
Now Hawkins is taking over in the lead role as Army Ranger Eric Carter as he races against the clock to save the United States from a terrorist threat.
"I was such a fan and still am of the show. The real-time premise changed the face of television," Hawkins previously said about filling in for Sutherland . "The idea of a new hero for a new day sang to me."
24: Legacy premiers after the Super Bowl on Fox on Feb. 5.
Previously, Fox stated the new series might not feature Sutherland in the future however Legacy will still crossovers with the first series as the latest trailer teased the return of special agent Tony Almeida portrayed by Carlos Bernard.
