PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods of The New Day made history Monday on Raw as they became the longest reigning tag team champions in WWE history.
Earning that distinction wasn't easy however, as the trio was forced to defend their titles in two different Triple Threat matches. The first one, which kicked off Raw, saw The New Day narrowly escape defeat from challengers Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson and Sheamus & Cesaro.
After the win, The New Day and a host of other WWE personnel, including commissioner Stephanie McMahon, celebrated in the back with the team's signature cereal Booty O's and plenty of champagne.
The party ended early however after McMahon was accidentally sprayed with champagne that left the boss visibly upset and embarrassed.
The incident would cause McMahon to make The New Day defend their titles once again but this time against alleged best friends Chris Jericho and Universal Champion Kevin Owens along with former Shield partners Seth Rollins and United States Champion Roman Reigns.
The star-studded bout, which featured an impressive top-rope sequence involving all competitors, came to a head after Owens and Jericho began arguing in the ring after Rollins shoved Owens into Jericho which broke up a three count on Woods.
Taking advantage of the situation, Rollins hit Jericho with the Pedigree before he was held down by Big E outside the ring. This gave Woods enough time to pin Jericho for the three count and make history.
Afterwards, Jericho and Owens' friendship continued to fall apart as they argued in the ring. Jericho then left Owens to be speared by Reigns who then held up the United States and Universal Championships in a sign of dominance ahead of their match at Roadblock.
