LOS ANGELES, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Pauley Perrette believes that she was meant to be attacked last year when her life was threatened by a 45-year-old transient man. "There were a lot of feelings and a lot of emotions, but I feel like at the end of it all, as strange as it sounds, if that incident had to happen in the universe, I feel like it had to be me," the NCIS star explained to People magazine Sunday while attending the TrevorLIVE event in Beverly Hills which benefits LGBTQ youth.

"I feel like it was supposed to be me somehow because I have a lot of experience working with the homeless, working with the mentally ill. This instance, de-escalation that had to happen right then," she continued before explaining how her faith has helped her recover.
"I think whatever the circumstances are, when you almost get killed, when someone almost kills you, and you're alive, and you walk away, it really gives you a lot of perspective," Perrette said.
In November of 2015, Perrette revealed that she was attacked by David Merck who assaulted and threatened to kill her in Hollywood. "He was so much stronger than me," Perrette recalled at the time. "I couldn't run. I couldn't fight...I was praying my heart out."
Merck has since been charged with one felony count each of making a criminal threat and false imprisonment by violence. He pleaded not guilty.
Notably, in February, Perrette shared that she had a second encounter with a homeless man who had grabbed her hand and put his head into her car after she offered him a dollar while at a stop light.
"He held my arm and then said, 'What Time [is] it?' He was in my car and I was scared. I looked at my dashboard and first said, 'I rebuke you satan in the name of Jesus Christ.' Then said to him, 'It's 5:37,'" she said of the incident. "He held my wrist for a moment, then released and left. I have a tactical knife and a taser in my car next to me, but I thought about that dollar to give him first. Did not arm myself."
