'Vanderpump Rules' star Scheana Shay files for divorce from husband Michael Shay

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay has filed for divorce from husband Michael Shay after two years of marriage.

"While we have made the difficult decision to move forward separately, our story will continue on through the love and mutual respect that we have cultivated throughout our 15-year friendship," the couple said in a joint statement to E! News.

"Much of the recent speculation and reporting on our relationship has been misguided, and we have come to an amicable decision on all matters," they continued.

"We might have failed at our marriage, but we are committed to succeeding as friends and will continue to support each other's personal happiness and professional success."

Scheana added more thoughts on the divorce on Twitter on Wednesday writing, "Thank you for the love today! It's never easy to split with someone you still love, but we will always remain friends."

Scheana and Michael have been featured on the Bravo reality series with their wedding ceremony being televised on the show in July of 2014. In November of 2015, Scheana explained to boss Lisa Vanderpump that she was having issues with her husband.

"The truth is everything isn't great. It's not perfect, she said at the time. "And I keep trying to act like everything's okay. It'll get better. I just keep telling myself, 'It'll be okay, and it'll get better.'"

The couple's martial problems will reportedly play out on the show.
