NEW YORK, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Television personality Andy Cohen credits his friend Kelly Ripa with alerting him to a spot on his lip that turned out to be melanoma.

Cohen discussed his recent health crisis when he guest-hosted Live! with Kelly Friday.

"I had a black dot on my bottom lip and you and I were at a party for Anderson [Cooper's] mom in April, and you said, 'You have a black dot on your lip, I don't think that's something good,'" Cohen reminded Ripa.

"It was melanoma and they removed it, and I just want to thank you because you were so dogmatic," he said. "The lip heals very well and I really had a chunk removed out of it."

Cohen and Ripa both urged viewers to see a doctor if they notice changes in their skin.
