Killer Mike, El-P of Run the Jewels join 'Gears of War 4' multiplayer

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Rap duo Killer Mike and El-P of Run the Jewels have joined the multiplayer and Horde mode of Microsoft's premiere third-person shooter, Gears of War 4.

Joining the Xbox One exclusive title Tuesday as playable characters, Run the Jewels appear in the title with their own unique turquoise colored chainsaw guns and voice lines recorded by Killer Mike and EL-P as seen in a gameplay trailer.

The group joins Gears of War as part of the Run the Jewels Air Drop DLC that also includes 18 new weapon skins, emblems and bounties and new multiplayer maps.

Run the Jewels had previously provided music for the game's soundtrack and various promotional trailers.

"The brotherhood that Killer Mike and El-P represent as Run the Jewels perfectly matches the soul of Gears, which at its core is about that brotherhood and never fighting alone," Microsoft said in a statement.

Gears of War 4 which was released on Oct. 11, is set 25 years after the events of the original trilogy and introduces new characters Kait Diaz, Del Walker and JD Fenix, the son of series main protagonist Marcus Fenix.

Killer Mike last made headlines in January when he discussed race, education and why he was supporting Bernie Sanders for president while appearing on The Late Show.
