Donald Glover on being cast as Lando Calrissian: 'I'm very honored'

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Donald Glover stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday where he commented on being cast as Star Wars character Lando Calrissian for the first time.

"It's really crazy," the actor explained to DeGeneres about joining Star Wars, a series he has been a fan of since childhood.

"I don't know. I'm very honored. It's a very big deal," he continued.

"It's not weird. You say it's crazy, but you kind of put it out there that you want to be in Star Wars, you put it out there that you want to be in Spider-Man, and both of those things happened," DeGeneres responded about how the 33-year-old is also set to appear in Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming in an unspecified role.

Glover who mentioned that Lando was the first toy he had has a child, also shared how his parents reacted to the news. "I told my dad immediately. He was like, 'Aww.' My mom was in the back; she was like, 'Don't mess it up! Don't mess this up!' 'Cause Billy Dee — like, that's hers," he detailed.

Glover joins the Star Wars series as a younger version of Lando Calrissian who was originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in an upcoming Han Solo spinoff film alongside Alden Ehrenreich in the role Harrison Ford made famous.

Glover is also known for his music career under the name Childish Gambino and for creating and starring in FX's Atlanta which was recently renewed for a second season.
