Audra McDonald and Will Swenson welcome baby girl

The couple married in 2012 and announced they were expecting in May.

NEW YORK, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Broadway couple Audra McDonald and Will Swenson are proud parents to a baby girl.

The 46-year-old actress announced in a tweet Thursday that she and Swenson, 42, welcomed daughter Sally James the night previous.

"@thewillswenson and I are overjoyed to welcome Sally James McDonald-Swenson, born last night at 11:16pm. Our hearts are bursting," she wrote.

McDonald is already mom to daughter Zoe with ex-husband Peter Donovan, while Swenson shares sons Bridger and Sawyer with ex-wife Amy Westerby. The couple married in 2012 and announced they were expecting in May.

"Who knew that tap dancing during perimenopause could lead 2 pregnancy?" she joked at the time. "@thewillswenson & I are completely surprised but elated 2 b expecting."

McDonald is known for playing Dr. Naomi Bennett on Private Practice and has starred in Broadway productions of A Raisin in the Sun, Carousel and Porgy and Bess. Swenson has appeared in Hair, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Les Miserables on Broadway.
