Rapper Shawty Lo of 'Laffy Taffy' fame dead at 40 following car crash

ATLANTA, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Rapper Shawty Lo, real name Carlos Walker known for hits "Laffy Taffy" and "Dey Know," has died at the age of 40 following a car crash.

Shawty Lo's manager Johnnie Cabbell confirmed the news on the Atlanta native's Twitter Wednesday writing, "My brother has passed he is no longer here but his spirit, his kind heart , and his music will live on Long live Shawty Lo King of Bankhead."

Later, Cabbell posted a photo of Shawty Lo playing a piano in all white on Instagram where he offered his condolences. "I am so so so devastated that words can not describe how I feel right now," Cabbell wrote.

"Shawty Lo was not just my artist he was my Brother He was My Friend. I have been Lo MGR for over 10 [years]. He was Loyal and he had my back when no one else did. I could count on him when I had no one else to turn to. We been thru so much together. If you knew Lo, then you know he was genuine. He was Real," he continued.

Authorities confirmed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Shawty Lo was in a single car accident and died after his vehicle went over a guardrail, hitting two trees before into burst into flames while on I-285.

Shawty Lo was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers are currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Shawty Lo is best known for his 2005 hit "Laffy Taffy" alongside his group D4L that disbanded the next year. Afterwards, he struck out on his own with a 2008 solo album entitled Units in the City which featured the hit single "Dey Know."
