LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Netflix and Spike Lee are teaming up to turn Lee's classic 1986 film She's Gotta Have It into a 10-episode series on the streaming site.

She's Gotta Have It tells the story of Nola Darling, an artist living in Brooklyn in her late twenties, who is trying to find her identity and balance life between her friends, her job and her three lovers.

The series, which follows the same story as the film, will be directed by Lee and executive produced alongside his wife Tonya Lewis Lee.

The film helped make a name for Lee in Hollywood as an African-American filmmaker, winning numerous awards and grossing more than $7 million at the box office.

She's Gotta Have It celebrated its 30th anniversary in August.
