LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- In a heartfelt message posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Rose McGowan talked about the feud between her and Shannen Doherty and her desire to move past it amid Doherty's battle with breast cancer.

McGowan said the two stars were "pitted against each other" when McGowan took over for Doherty on the show Charmed in the early 2000s.

Doherty was killed off the show after she was deemed too difficult to work with.

"The men & brainwashed women in our business made it so we couldn't be friends, I regret that," McGowan said alongside a cartoon rendering of the two women -- Doherty in a head wrap and McGowan also sporting a shaved head which she recently did for "liberation."

"We were cast in this weird fake reality show where we were supposed to be enemies. I resented it greatly. I regret not being awake enough to articulate this to you at the time," McGowan said. "Fear was drilled into me from day one in this town & you were the barometer by which my behavior was judged. I was under a microscope, one false move and I'd be branded 'difficult' just like you. I think we all know what happens when girls here get out of line."

Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and has been vocal about her battle.
