LOS ANGELES, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Naya Rivera says husband Ryan Dorsey was supportive after learning she once had an abortion without his knowledge.

The 29-year-old actress shared the 33-year-old actor's response to the news on Tuesday's episode of The Real after revealing to the public in August that she had an abortion while filming Glee.

"When I had made that decision, I made it by myself ... I did not share it with Ryan at the time," the star said. "[When I did tell him, his response] was the kindest and best thing that any man could have ever said in that situation, and it just made me love him that much more."

"He said, 'In the short time that we dated, I wish that I could've done something to make you feel like you could've trusted me with that information because I would have loved to be there with you,'" she recalled. "I was like, 'Wow, that's amazing. Thank you so much.'"

Rivera had revealed in her memoir Sorry Not Sorry that she secretly had an abortion after discovering she was pregnant with Dorsey's child in 2010. The couple dated on-and-off before marrying in 2014 and now share 11-month-old son Josey.

"It was a bunch of different factors, you know, and I was so young," Rivera explained of her decision in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "You are like, 'What is going on? I have all this other stuff to do, you know?' So it was just never a real question."

"It's something that is one of life's little scars that you get along the way, and the scars are never really healed," she admitted. "They are always kind of still there -- they are just not bleeding anymore."

Rivera is best known for playing Santana Lopez on Glee, which had a six-season run on Fox from 2009 to 2015. She most recently portrayed Blanca Alvarez on the since-canceled Lifetime series Devious Maids.
