'Jersey Boys' posts January closing date; Mark Ballas to play show's final Frankie Valli

NEW YORK, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- The Broadway production of Jersey Boys is set to end its 11-year run on Jan. 15, producers announced Tuesday.

The beloved show will have played 4,642 performances at the August Wilson Theatre.

Dancing with the Stars pro Mark Ballas will make his Broadway debut and be the final actor to take on the iconic role of Frankie Valli, starting Oct. 18 and continuing until the curtain drops this winter.

Jersey Boys is the 12th longest running show in Broadway history, passing such original stagings as Miss Saigon, 42nd Street, Grease, Fiddler on the Roof and The Producers. The various Jersey Boys productions around the world have grossed a total of more than $2 billion and been seen by over 24 million people.

The theatrical blockbuster is the "behind-the-music story" of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons -- "just four guys from Jersey, until they sang their very first note," a synopsis said.

"They had a sound nobody had ever heard... and the radio just couldn't get enough of. But while their harmonies were perfect on stage, off stage, it was a very different story -- a story that has made them an international sensation all over again."

The show features all the 1960s group's greatest hits, including "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Oh What A Night," "Walk Like a Man," "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and "Working My Way Back to You."
