'Bob Newhart Show,' 'Rugrats' favorite Jack Riley dies at 80

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Actor Jack Riley -- whose career spanned 50 years -- died of pneumonia at a hospital in Los Angeles. He was 80.

Variety and Deadline confirmed his death this weekend.

Best known for his roles on the television comedies The Bob Newhart Show, Diff'rent Strokes, Night Court and Son of the Beach, he also lent his voice to the character of Stu Pickles on the animated series Rugrats and its spin-off All Growed Up.

His film credits include the Mel Brooks classics Silent Movie, High Anxiety, History of the World: Part I and Spaceballs.
