"There's nothing like being back home! Great way to spend my first day in retirement! @boomerrphelps @nicole.m.johnson," he captioned a family photo of himself, Johnson and Boomer in a pool.

Phelps and Johnson got engaged in February 2015 and welcomed Boomer in May. The five-time Olympian was enthusiastic about teaching his son to swim when he spoke to USA Today in June.

"I'd really like to get him in the water to see how he reacts," he said. "He loves baths, so he feels very relaxed in the water. Very at home. Maybe he'll feel the same when he's in the pool!"

Boomer had stolen the show during Phelps' gold medal swim Aug. 7 at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. The new dad won four other gold medals at this year's games, but was adamant about his retirement Monday on Today.
