NEW YORK, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Jesse Metcalfe and longtime love Cara Santana are engaged. The 37-year-old actor proposed to the 31-year-old fashion blogger during a sailboat ride Saturday on the Hudson River in New York, Us Weekly reported Tuesday.

Metcalfe popped the question with a 5.5-carat diamond ring as the couple's song, Eric Clapton's "Pretty Girl," played in the background. The actor and Santana have been together more than 10 years.
"It's been a long time coming, but we couldn't be happier," he told the magazine.
Metcalfe shared a photo of himself and Santana the same day on Instagram to celebrate his fiancée's 31st birthday. He had told Your Tango in 2013 that he and Santana developed a friendship before they became romantic.
"I wouldn't say it was love at first sight. It was more of a slow burn, which I think is a better start for a relationship," he revealed. "I think if it comes on fast and furious, it generally fizzles out just as fast. We were slow and steady."
Metcalfe is known for playing John Rowland on Desperate Housewives and Christopher Ewing on Dallas. He presently stars on the new Hallmark Channel series Chesapeake Shores, which airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
