LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Despite lackluster ratings for last season's reboot, Fox execs, show creator and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are in talks to keep working on more episodes of The X-Files.

During a panel at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour on Monday, the head of programming at Fox told the crowd that another season is forthcoming.

"Schedules are hard, but we are working hard to get this done and we would love to get another season out soon," said David Madden.

Madden said the show's rocky reboot was due to the fact that it had been off the air for so long, with its regular season run ending in 2002, so there was a lot of catching up to do.

In spite of the mixed critical reviews, Madden remains confident in the recent episodes.

"I actually think that the season, the six episodes, were strong," he said.

The upcoming season will likely feature 10 episodes and won't have the challenge of reintroducing characters and storylines.

"I think going forward there won't be the same obligation to reset the series," Madden said. "But I will tell you that on our social platforms, the chatter is overwhelmingly positive and the fans want more episodes."
