RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Michael Phelps' 3-month-old son Boomer stole the spotlight Sunday during his dad's Olympic gold win.
Boomer gained national attention as he sat with his mother Nicole Johnson and his grandmother as they cheered on Michael from the stands during his 4x100-meter freestyle relay.
Boomer's outfit and overall demeanor, which included confused and sleepy faces, were noticed and shared by fans online who found the newborn baby to be adorable.
Michael shared on Instagram the moment after his gold medal win when he noticed Boomer sleeping in the crowd among all the loud cheering. "The moment when I got to see my amazing family in the stands... @boomerrphelps was sound Asleep.... Haha!! Love you guys so much and thank you for all of your support!!!" the Olympic swimmer wrote.
Johnson also highlighted Boomer's USA-themed outfit on the photo sharing site with the caption, "Thanks for sharing your gold medal with me dad!!! I love you and can't wait til I get to see you."
Before the Summer Olympics began, Michael noted how excited he was to share the event with his son. "To have our first-born be able to watch—I'll say this just in case I come back—my potential last Olympics," he said during a press conference according to E! News.
"Just so you guys don't beat me to death if I come back, I'm just going to say that: To have him watch the potential last races of my career is something I look forward to being able to share with him."
