KYOTO, Japan, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Nintendo's upcoming gaming console codenamed the NX, will receive new Mario and Pokemon games within six months of launch according to a new report.

Citing sources close to the gaming giant, MCV writes that Nintendo is looking to bring in some of its biggest franchises early to the console in order to avoid the slow start of its previous console Wii U and handheld 3DS.

The previously announced next entry in the fabled Legend of Zelda series Breath of the Wild, is also expected to release within that timeframe.

Nintendo has also reportedly secured third-party support from noted publishers Activision, Ubisoft, Square Enix, Sega and Warner Bros. in order to have more titles arrive on the system.

Notably, MCV reports that ongoing rumors that the NX will be a handheld console hybrid are true, with the device featuring detachable controllers and a way for it be taken on-the-go or connected to a television.

Nintendo has remained tight-lipped on the console but previously stated that the NX would arrive sometime in March 2017.

According to IGN, the only games officially confirmed for the NX include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Just Dance 2017 and Sega's untitled 2017 Sonic game.
