NXT takes the spotlight in 'WWE 2K17' special edition

NEW YORK, July 14 (UPI) -- WWE's developmental brand NXT is set to be showcased in a special edition version of 2K Sports upcoming video game, WWE 2K17.

The NXT Edition announced Thursday by 2K on social media, will offer fans three playable NXT Superstars including Shinsuke Nakamura, Nia Jax and Apollo Crews, along with a collection of in-game enhancements and collectible WWE memorabilia.

"The #WWE2K17 Collector's Edition is all about NXT this year!" 2K noted on Twitter alongside an announcement trailer featuring the package.

Other NXT edition bonuses include an exclusive lithograph designed by WWE portrait artist Rob Schamberger of Nakamura with the wrestler's autograph, an eight-inch "Demon" Finn Balor action figure and a set of Topps NXT TakeOver: London trading cards that contain pieces of the ring mat used during the event.

Only 50,000 copies of the NXT Edition will be made available worldwide noted the publisher and will retail for $99.99.

"To me, it's about as in-depth to NXT as you can get," mentioned WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H to Gamespot. "For our hardcore fan base, our most passionate fans, that's what they want. They want the ability to replicate the superstar's career paths, as themselves or as that character. I think you're going to see NXT become more and more a part of [the WWE 2K series] over the years."

WWE 2K17 is set to arrive on October 11, 2016 for the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

In June, The Beast, Brock Lesnar, was revealed as the cover star for WWE 2K17 and in June, retired Superstar Goldberg was announced as a playable character for those who pre-order the game.
