'Loving' trailer shows struggle behind interracial marriage Supreme Court case

WASHINGTON, July 12 (UPI) -- Focus Features released a new trailer for the upcoming film Loving from writer/director Jeff Nichols.

The film retells the story of real life interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving, portrayed by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, who fought for their right to marry in their home state of Virginia in the 1960s.

The three-minute trailer follows the couple from their wedding day through their landmark 1967 Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia, as they faced jail time and other persecution for their relationship.

Loving, based on the couple's story which "has become an inspiration to couples ever since," will release in theaters on November 4.
