NEW YORK, June 24 (UPI) -- In an almost two and a half minute featurette released Thursday, Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling shared some insight into the American wizarding world and its newest hero, Newt Scamander.

Scamander is the main character in the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Fantastic Beasts is a textbook Harry and crew use at Hogwarts, and was released by Rowling in 2001.

The movie version delves into Scamander's story as he travels the world gathering information for his textbook.

"He calls himself a magizoologist," Rowling explains in the featurette.

During his travels, Scamander finds himself in New York City with a magic briefcase full of supernatural creatures. The case is accidentally opened and trouble ensues as Scamander and friends try to capture the animals and return them to the case.

Until this featurette, not much was known about Scamander's background. Rowling herself offered a little tidbit about the central theme of the movie and Scamander's character.

"My heroes are always people who feel themselves set apart, stigmatized, or othered," she said. "That's at the heart of most of what I write. It's certainly at the heart of this movie."

This video was much more well received than the messy and confusing VidCon video released earlier this week in which fans thought they were getting some inside scoop.

This video, with interviews from Rowling and Eddie Redmayne who plays Scamander, gives fans some behind the scenes info they've been clamoring for.

The film hits theaters on November 18.
