LOS ANGELES, June 23 (UPI) -- Star Wars: The Force Awakens breakout, John Boyega, is teaming up with Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal in their upcoming Zero Dark Thirty followup which centers on the 1967 Detroit riots.

Not much is known about the still unnamed film other than it seeks to explore racism and the five days of unrest in Detroit during the summer of '67.

A 2017 release is likely and will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the riots.

Also on the burner for Boyega is the sequel to 2013's Pacific Rim, which Boyega will also co-produce.
