Meat Loaf collapses on stage in Canada

EDMONTON, Alberta, June 17 (UPI) -- Rock singer Meat Loaf is reportedly in stable condition after collapsing on stage Thursday evening during a concert in Canada.

Video footage from the performance at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton shows the 68-year-old singer, whose real name is Marvin Lee Aday, dropping the microphone stand and lying down on stage during the song "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)." The band stopped seconds after and the show was ended.

The incident occurred after the singer canceled shows earlier in the week in Moose Jaw and Calgary, due to illness. His Canadian tour finishes in July.

An Alberta Health Services spokesperson would only confirm a patient was transported from the auditorium to an Edmonton hospital, but gave no other details.

NBC News was not immediately able to reach the singer's representatives.

"For the whole show Meat Loaf seemed a little out of it," said Callie Young, 29, who was in the eighth row of the auditorium. "I actually told my boyfriend I was having a hard time enjoying the concert because I was concerned for his health."

She said, "Before the first chorus he just dropped. We thought it was part of the show but it got very serious very quickly."
