The next entry in Microsoft's premiere third-person shooter franchise impressed fans during the tech giant's annual E3 press briefing with a lengthy gameplay trailer that featured new characters Kait Diaz, Del Walker and JD Fenix, the son of series main protagonist Marcus Fenix. Developed by series newcomers The Coalition, this new Gears of War harkened back to what made the series so popular in the first place with brutal, cover-based gameplay, action-movie like one-liners and stunning, grim and gritty graphics. Gears of War 4 will be launching exclusively for the Xbox One and Windows 10 on Oct. 11, 2016.

4. Spider-Man

Marvel's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is swinging back into the world of video games with a new titled developed by Playstation veterans Insomniac Games. The surprise title was unveiled during Sony's E3 press conference with a fast-moving, acrobatic trailer that featured the iconic web-head chasing down a group of bad guys on the streets of New York. Currently the new Spider-Man adventure has no set release date or official title but will be released exclusively for the Playstation 4.

3. Titanfall 2

The mech-infused first-person shooter Titanfall returns looking better then ever in this sequel that offers even faster-paced gameplay, a new host of technologically advanced behemoths to control and a new grapple hook item that allows players to transverse levels and grab enemies in mid-air. Showcased during EA's E3 presentation, Titanfall 2 is notably no longer exclusive to Xbox One and PC and will be making its first appearance on the Playstation 4 along with a single-player campaign. Titanfall 2 will arrive on October 28.

2. God of War

Kratos is back in a Norse mythology inspired sequel that features the usually enraged Spartan warrior older, bearded and calmer as he helps a young boy, possibly his son learn how to fight. A gameplay demo featured during Sony's E3 press conference highlighted other new changes coming to the series including a more intimate, over-the-shoulder form of combat that looks more brutal then ever. The game, which received some of the most fanfare at E3, still has no official release date but will arrive exclusively for the Playstation 4.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The focus of Nintendo's E3 showing, the next entry in the iconic Legend of Zelda series, stole the show with a calming, serene debut trailer that featured a new, breathtaking open-world Hyrule. Main protagonist Link was seen donning a new suit of armor, cooking food to gain health, gliding over a dense forest, climbing mountains and exploring vast landscapes. Beautiful and rich with color, the trailer also debuted voice-acting for the first time in the series, with an unnamed character, potentially Princess Zelda, asking Link off-screen to "Open your eyes." As the trailer concluded, the series signature Master Sword was shown, buried deep into a stone. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild still has no official release date, but is being developed for the Nintendo Wii U and the company's next console, codenamed the NX, which is due to launch in March 2017.
