NEW YORK, June 15 (UPI) -- Steve Martin and Edie Brickell's Broadway musical Bright Star is to close June 26, producers said.

The announcement was made Tuesday, two days after the show failed to win any Tony Awards in a battle against the box-office behemoth Hamilton, which earned 11 prizes.

"Experience #BrightStar through 6/26 ONLY," reads a message posted on the show's official Twitter account.

"Last chance to see and hear the incredible cast of Bright Star! Two more weeks-ish on Broadway," Martin tweeted.

"We are sad too. We loved having you with us!" the show's producers tweeted after fans expressed their sorrow about the production's closing.

The 1940s North Carolina-set, bluegrass musical began previews in February and officially opened in March. It stars Carmen Cusack, Michael Mulheren, Paul Alexander Nolan and Dee Hoty.

Martin penned the show's book and co-wrote the music with Brickell, while Brickell crafted the lyrics.
