LOS ANGELES, June 14 (UPI) -- God of War is back with main protagonist Kratos is a new sequel revealed by Sony during their E3 2016 press conference.

The lengthy gameplay trailer, showcased to announce the game, featured the usually enraged Spartan warrior older, bearded and calmer as he helps a young boy, possibly his son, hunt inside a snowy forrest looking for food.

The trailer notably highlighted God of War's new Norse mythology inspired setting complete with a flying dragon seen in the background and the game's new form of combat, which combined with a more intimate, over-the-shoulder viewpoint, looks more brutal then ever.

Following Sony's conference, it was unclear if this God of War featured the same Kratos from the series' past or whether the title was a reboot, however developer Cory Barlog from Sony Santa Monica clarified its status stating it was a sequel that took place many years after the events of God of War 3.

No release window was given for the new God of War.
