LOS ANGELES, June 11 (UPI) -- Rock star Adam Levine took to Twitter Saturday to express his grief over Friday's shooting death of singer Christina Grimmie in Florida.

"Behati and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie's death. Our hearts go out to her family," Levine tweeted on behalf of himself and his wife.

The simple, emotional message accompanied a cute photo of Levine and Grimmie, who worked together on the singing competition show The Voice.

Grimmie, 22, died after a gunman opened fire on her following a concert when she was signing autographs and selling merchandise with the band Before You Exit at the Plaza Live Theater in Orlando.

Grimmie's brother tackled the gunman, who fatally shot himself, and was credited with preventing anyone else present from being injured. The shooter's identity has not been revealed to the public yet.
