SAN ANTONIO, June 9 (UPI) -- Supergirl star Jeremy Jordan has taken to social media to ask fans to help him free his cousin from an anti-gay Christian boarding facility.

"I can't believe beautiful, smart, incredible kids like my cousin Sarah are still being told that being gay is wrong," the actor wrote on Facebook of his cousin's predicament.

"But it's worse than that for Sarah... She's been placed at a remote boarding facility to help 'pray away the gay' for a year with no communication to the outside world," he continued alongside a link to a GoFundMe page to help raise $100,000 to pay for legal fees to order to get Sarah out of the facility.

"She may not be able to see it now, but please show her how much she matters and take a stand to help us free this wonderful young woman and welcome her back to a world of love and acceptance."

The GoFundMe page states that it was Sarah's parents who sent the 18-year-old away after she attended her high school prom with a girlfriend. So far, Jordan and his extended family who disagree with her parents decision have raised over $60,000 out of the $100,000 goal.

"Any money collected will go first toward paying Christine's legal fees and our portion of the amicus attorney fess, which thus far have totaled approximately $20,000," the page explains. The family has hired attorney Christine Andresen to handle their case.

"I can't comment on pending litigation, other than to authenticate that to the best of my knowledge, the background information on the GoFundMe shared by Sarah's cousin is truthful," Andresen said in a statement to People magazine.

Arrow star Colton Haynes who has recently come out as gay, shared Jordan and his cousin's story on Twitter writing, "This absolutely breaks my heart. Pls help Jeremy Jordan's cousin be her true self. #FreeSarah. Join me & donate."
