NEW YORK, June 7 (UPI) -- Proving her versatility once again, actress Meryl Streep donned orange face makeup, a red tie and a snarky attitude to do the full Donald Trump routine at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park Monday night.

Wearing a fat suit, messy, poofy hair and pursing her lips, the legendary three-time Academy Award winner took to the stage with her Mamma Mia! costar Christine Baranski during the annual Shakespeare in the Park Public Theater Gala, with Baranski portraying Hillary Clinton in a black pant suit, Entertainment reported.

Streep's performance was a bit of a surprise to event organizers who knew only that she planned to take on Trump, the New York Times reported.

"Utterly her idea from beginning to end," said Oskar Eustes, the Public's artistic director. "There were skeptics, there were doubters, but one of those skeptics was not Meryl Streep. She was absolutely sure she could do it. None of us had seen her in costume or makeup, til she walked out tonight."

Streep strolled on to the stage gesturing as Trump does in his speeches.

A Clinton supporter, Streep skipped the event dinner before hand to prepare for the number, during which she and Baranski performed "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" from the Cole Porter musical Kiss Me Kate. with a few altered words.

The audience, which included former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Broadway's Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda and songstress and actress Bette Midler, all appeared to love the spoof.

Fans had fun tweeting about the performance.

Other performers, including Hamish Licklater and Kate Burton saw Streep before the performance, but only with her hair teased up.

"She's willing to try anything and have fun with what she tries, Eustes said.
