Rapper 'Troy Ave' arrested, charged for T.I. concert shooting

NEW YORK, May 27 (UPI) -- Rapper "Troy Ave" has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the fatal shooting that took place at rapper T.I.'s New York concert on Wednesday night.

According to Us Weekly, the Brooklyn-based rapper and friend of T.I. inadvertently shot himself in the leg and opened fire on three others ahead of T.I.'s show at Irving Plaza in the Union Square neighborhood of Manhattan. He was arrested by the New York City Police Department on Thursday, authorities confirmed on Twitter.

"Roland Collins (A.K.A. Troy Ave), 33, charged with Attempted Murder & Criminal Possession of a Weapon," the NYPD announced online, attaching a clip of the rapper allegedly shooting into the crowd at the Irving Plaza music venue.

Rapper T.I. has spoken out since a shooting, expressing his sympathies toward Troy Ave's victims, including 33-year-old Ronald McPhatter, who was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital after the incident.

The artist took to Twitter to send a message to McPhatter's family, as well as the three others who were injured.

"My heart is heavy today," the rapper wrote. "Our music is intended to save lives, like it has mine and many others. My heartfelt condolences to the family that suffered the loss & my prayers are with all those injured. Respectfully, Tip."

The message comes over a day after the shooting in the V.I.P. backstage area of Irving Plaza, a music venue in New York City. T.I. was expected to perform later that night.

Another victim was 26-year-old model Maggie Carrie Heckstall, who was shot in the left leg.

"I'm SO VERY grateful for life," she wrote on Instagram on Thursday, while recovering at Bellevue Hospital.

The third victim, a 34-year-old man, was shot in the chest. He is in stable condition.

Troy Ave reportedly transported himself to the hospital after shooting himself in the leg.
