NEW YORK, May 17 (UPI) -- All people over the age of 12 wishing to attend New York Comic Con in October must fill out online fan profiles before buying tickets, organizers announced Tuesday.
The new procedure is meant to curb the re-sale of tickets at inflated prices. Ticket-buyers may enroll in the fan-verification system from Friday through June 13. Kids who will be ages 6-12 at the time of NYCC 2016 and who will be using a NYCC 2016 adult ticket or Sunday kids ticket do not need to fill out profiles.
The 2016 edition of New York Comic Con will take place Oct. 6-9. Tickets will only be available for purchase online through the NYCC ticket website and there will be no retail ticket sales. VIP tickets to the convention will no longer be sold.
"At ReedPOP we put our fans first and this process is to get as many tickets into the hands of those fans, plain and simple," Lance Fensterman, global senior vice president of ReedPOP, said in a statement. "We know it is a little more work for our fans, but we hope they will happily work with this new system if it helps to thwart ticket brokers and ticket re-sellers."
New York Comic Con is a four-day event featuring celebrity panels, special screenings, autograph signings and a marketplace.
