WASHINGTON, May 17 (UPI) -- Following the initial mayhem of Jane The Virgin's Season 2 finale, the episode simmered down for a few moments to see a lovely wedding ceremony featuring Bruno Mars.

The "Uptown Funk" singer appeared as titular character Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) and Michael Cordero's (Brett Dier) wedding singer in Monday night's finale, debuting the song "Rest of My Life."

Invited by character Rogelio De La Vega in the show, Mars acted as proof of the character's celebrity connections.

"SURPRISE!! Thank you to all the good people @CWJaneTheVirgin if you ain't up on this show yet you straight trippin!" Mars tweeted following the episode's end.

The appearance was one of the first from the singer since appearing on the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show stage opposite Beyonce Knowles and Coldplay's Chris Martin.

The final minutes of Jane The Virgin's Season 2 finale rev up to a shocking moment which leaves the fate of Jane's new husband, Michael, unknown. Speaking with Deadline, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman said what happens to Michael will be revealed "early in the next season."

"Next year's structure is a little bit different in that we are building towards a different type of life event, for Jane," Urman said of what's to come for the CW show.
