WASHINGTON, May 13 (UPI) -- Singer David Bowie was expected to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming Twin Peaks revival, but died before filming took place.

Actor Harry Goaz broke the news during an interview with the Dallas Morning News this week while discussing his own role in the David Lynch-led reboot.

Bowie played Agent Phillip Jeffries in the film, and would have reprised his role for the new episodes as a cameo.

The "Space Oddity" singer wasn't the only musician Lynch had enlisted for the series, set to premiere next year; Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and Sky Ferreira are also set to make appearances.

Earlier this month, actress Piper Laurie spoke out about not being asked to return to Twin Peaks.

"I did send a note to David that I would be delighted to return, but I think most of the material that I was in on the original didn't really involve the darker aspects of the show, and I can guess maybe that's where David and Mark Frost are going, but I really don't know," Laurie said in early May. "My character was more on the silly, comic, fun side."

Neither she nor Lara Flynn Boyle, Michael Otkean and Joan Chen will be returning to the new show.
