NEW YORK, May 3 (UPI) -- Katy Perry admitted to a friendly rivalry with Lady Gaga when it comes to Met Gala fashion.

During an interview ahead of Monday's event, the "Dark Horse" singer told People she would be on-theme for the event, which celebrated technology and fashion.

"I know a couple of people are coming like lit up and stuff like that, and I'm like, 'I did that in 2010, you're late!'" the global pop star joked. "I'm going to do something but I'm sure like Gaga is going to arrive on a drone, and I'll just be like, 'Grr! Again! [Expletive]!'"

Monday night, both Perry and Gaga brought their futuristic creativity to the forefront, with Perry donning a dark, heavily embellished gown -- complete with a Tamagachi toy -- and latex gloves. Gaga went for a more revealing cutout body suit, fishnet tights, a glamorous broad-shouldered metallic jacket and her signature super-platform heels.

Ahead of the gala, Perry posted a tweet sharing with fans her "theme song" for the night -- the dated AOL dial-up sound.
