LOS ANGELES, April 27 (UPI) -- Rebecca Romijn doesn't consider Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid to be true supermodels.

The 43-year-old model-turned-actress slammed the 20-year-old and 21-year-old models in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, arguing that Jenner and Hadid's popularity on social media doesn't mean they belong in the fashion world.

"No one has proven yet that number of followers translates to revenue," Romijn said. "So it is frustrating. I know a lot of people -- legitimate fashion people -- can't stand it. Hate it that these, you know, social media stars are now the supermodels in fashion."

"They are not true supermodels," she declared. "I rely on Vogue to set the standard, not follow what everybody else is doing. So I have been disappointed that fashion magazines have been supporting this trend of social media stars to set our style standards."

Romijn herself modeled for Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated in the 1990s before pursuing acting. The actress predicted Jenner and Hadid's popularity won't last, saying the focus on social media stars "will change," as "fashion always does."

Hadid has appeared in two Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues and walked in her first Victoria's Secret Fashion Show with Jenner in November. The models and best friends are also known for their work with Chanel and Balmain.

"I've done things in the past year that I never thought I'd do in five years," Hadid told Harper's Bazaar in June. "It's still surreal. I'm just trying to take it all in. It's going so fast you don't really have time to stop and process it, but it's amazing -- I'm having so much fun."

Romijn denied she ever "talked smack" about Jenner and Hadid in a tweet Tuesday, calling the pair "amazing & beautiful." The actress is known for playing Mystique in X-Men and will next star in The Swinging Lanterns Stories with Carla Gugino.
