Prince George appears on new stamp for the Queen's birthday

LONDON, April 20 (UPI) -- Prince George will make his postage stamp debut in honor of great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II's birthday.

The three heirs to the British throne, Prince George, father Prince William and grandfather Prince Charles, posed with Queen Elizabeth for a family portrait that will appear on new Royal Mail stamps commemorating the queen's 90th birthday.

"Today, the Royal Mail celebrates The Queen's 90th birthday with the release of a photograph featuring four generations of the Royal Family. The image will appear on a special commemorative Stamp Sheet," the British Monarchy official Facebook page stated.

"The Royal Mail celebrates its own special birthday this year: its 500th anniversary. The Queen will mark the anniversary with a visit to the Royal Mail Windsor delivery office this morning, the first of this year's 90th birthday events."

Photographer Ranald Mackechnie shot the portrait in the White Drawing Room in Buckingham Palace in August. The royal family initially planned to shoot the picture in the Yellow Drawing Room, but decided the white "would capture the moment more effectively."

The other six of the 10 stamps will depict Queen Elizabeth's life and work. Highlights include photos of the queen with her father, King George VI, with a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne, and with late husband Prince Philip.

Prince George is the son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, who also share 11-month-old Princess Charlotte. The royal couple will host president Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama at Kensington Palace on Friday.
