NEW YORK, April 12 (UPI) -- MAC Cosmetics has given fans their first look at their upcoming makeup line inspired by famed singer Selena Quintanilla.
Released Tuesday on social media, the cosmetics company revealed the first photo of the line's "Como La Flor" bold red lipstick which comes packaged in a vibrant purple tube.
"Your passion for @selenalaleyenda lives on through #MACSelena. The multi-product collection arrives October 2016," the company wrote alongside the image announcing the product's launch date.
Originally announced in July of 2015, Selena's sister Suzette Quintanilla has been involved with the creation of the makeup line working with closely MAC to ensure its authenticity.
"I wanted the colors to be about her personally, what she wore on and offstage," Suzette said to People magazine. "She has been gone for 21 years already, and for this collaboration to happen, it's pretty much incredible. It just shows the love her fan base has even though she's gone; that her music still lives on and her legacy has grown tremendously since she's passed. It's a great honor to have MAC collaborate with Selena's name and her fans — for her fans."
Dubbed the "Queen of Tejano" music, Selena was shot to death by fan club president Yolanda Saldivar in 1995.
"Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late-night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day," Suzette said. "If Selena were here she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening. History is being made."
