LOS ANGELES, April 9 (UPI) -- Axl Rose has fractured his left foot and undergone surgery to repair the injury shortly after his band Guns N' Roses announced it is reuniting for a concert tour.

This will be the first time in more than two decades that the group's original lineup of Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan will take the stage together for a series of shows. Their "Not in This Lifetime" tour is to begin in Detroit June 23.

The lead singer did not specify how he hurt himself, but a Facebook post on the band's official account quoted him as saying, "This is what can happen when you do something you haven't done in nearly over 23 years, "Internal Fixation.""

The social-media message also contained a short video of a foot and ankle specialist in Santa Monica explaining in detail Rose's condition and how she is treating it.

"Right now, he is in a cast and we're limiting how much weight he puts on it, so he's having his set, I think, designed for the stage, so he can perform for everyone still," she noted. "He'll be limiting the weight on the front part of the foot for about four weeks and then we will let him gradually progress from there. So, we can get him back for his stage-ready action."
