Judi Dench wins record-setting eighth Olivier Award for 'Winter's Tale'

LONDON, April 3 (UPI) -- Judi Dench earned a record-setting eighth Olivier Award in London Sunday for her performance in The Winter's Tale.

Kinky Boots was named Best New Musical, Hangmen was deemed Best New Play and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom was honored as Best Revival.

Kenneth Cranham won the Best Actor accolade for The Father, while Denise Gough scored the Best Actress trophy for People, Places and Things.

Matt Henry went home with the Best Actor in a Musical prize for Kinky Boots and the Best Actress in a Musical statuette was presented to Imelda Staunton for Gypsy, which was also declared Best Musical Revival.

Staunton's co-star Lara Pulver garnered the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical and David Bedella won for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for In the Heights.

Mark Gatiss was the winner of the Best Supporting Actor Olivier for Three Days in the Country and Robert Icke was recognized as Best Director for Oresteia.

The ceremony at the Royal Opera House was hosted by theater icon Michael Ball.
