Comedian Ronnie Corbett, 'Two Ronnies' star, dies at age 85

LONDON, March 31 (UPI) -- Scottish comedian Ronnie Corbett, one-half of TV's long-running "The Two Ronnies," has died at the age of 85.

"Ronnie Corbett CBE, one of the nation's best-loved entertainers, passed away this morning, surrounded by his loving family," his publicist said in a statement.

"They have asked that their privacy is respected at this very sad time," he continued referencing his family.

The actor had been suffering gall bladder problems since 2014, according to the BBC.

Corbett, considered one of Britain's most popular entertainers, was best known for his role on The Two Ronnies which aired from 1971 to 1987 opposite comedian Ronnie Barker who died in 2005 at the age of 76.

Following Barker's death, Corbett continued to appear on British television and in films, including Fierce Creatures. Other memorable solo projects include the sitcom Sorry!, game show Small Talk and BBC Radio 4 sitcom, When the Dog Dies.

Corbett is survived by his wife, actress and singer Anne Hart, and his two daughters, actresses Emma and Sophie Corbett.
