SAN FRANCISCO, March 23 (UPI) -- Telltale Games has announced that The Walking Dead Season 3 will release in 2016.

The next entry in the critically acclaimed interactive adventure series based on the Robert Kirkman comic book series of the same name, was revealed by the developer in a new interview with Mashable.

Although light on release details, Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner discussed with the publication how Season 3 will deal with the last game's multiple endings.

"The way that we're dealing with and validating and retaining all those different playthroughs is really cool and unexpected and, I think, pretty innovative from the storytelling point of view," Bruner explained.

The Walking Dead Season 3 will be welcoming for new players to the series who have not played the previous two entries."It allows people who maybe haven't played [the first two seasons] to come in and get up to speed really quickly. But it definitely respects, honors, and facilitates all of the various end points that Season Two had," he continued.

More information on Season 3 will be revealed during the 2016 San Diego Comic Con International.

Telltales The Walking Dead, which first released in 2012 with Season 1, has players assume the role of Clementine, a young girl fighting to survive during the zombie outbreak. On her journey, Clementine meets various Walking Dead characters from the comic book series and show. The series is noteworthy for how choices players make in the game, such as which characters live and die, affect the story in multiple ways.

Also in 2016, TellTale Games will release their upcoming Batman title which features gameplay moments as both Bruce Wayne and his crimefighting alter ego.
