Penny Dreadful Season 3 trailer released

WASHINGTON, March 15 (UPI) -- Eva Green, Josh Hartnett and Reeve Carney of Showtime's Penny Dreadful are embracing their dark side in the network's latest trailer for the show's third season.

As Oscar nominated showrunner John Logan's Dreadful inches closer to its early May season premiere, the new promo teases a deeper dip into each character's own darkness.

The clip shows Tony award winner Patti LuPone, seen recently in American Horror Story, returning to the show as a series regular in the role of Dr. Seward. Wes Studi will also appear as a new regular as Kaetenay.

The teaser shows Eva Green's character Vanessa Ives reminding herself she's been "touched by Satan," while a clip of a bloody love scene rushes across the screen. Soon after, her lover Ethan Chandler (Hartnett) is heard saying "I am made for the dark," as he seems to have resumed the hunting of evil.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime May 1 at 10 p.m.
