"A new journey awaits us and for the rest of our lives we'll talk about this one," Bella wrote. "You have given so much hope and inspiration to people all over. We haven't lost you, just get to see you in a different light. #thankyoudanielbryan #mystrength #mylove."

Bryan signed with WWE in 2009 and went on to become a three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion. He elaborated on his decision to retire on Monday's episode of WWE Raw, explaining his many concussions have left him unable to safely fight.

"I have loved this in a way that I have never loved anything else," he said of wrestling. "But a week and a half ago I took a test that said maybe my brain wasn't as okay as I thought it was. And I have a family to think about, and my wife and I want to start having kids soon."

Bella and Bryan met through the WWE and married in 2014 after three years of dating. The couple appear on Bella's E! reality series, Total Divas, along with her twin sister, Nikki Bella, and Nikki's boyfriend, WWE wrestler John Cena.

"#ThankYouDanielBryan for DOING what most only talk about. Challenging everything. Authority, conformity, perception. Redefining valor," Cena tweeted in response to the news.

"Wow what a speech! So proud of you Bryan! N #ThankYouDanielBryan," Nikki added after WWE Raw. "Anyone have some extra tissue!"
