NEW YORK, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Alex Timbers is set to direct the new stage musical based on the Academy Award-winning film Frozen, which is heading to Broadway in the spring of 2018, Disney Theatrical Productions said Tuesday.
The show will play its out-of-town tryout beginning in the summer of 2017 at a theater to be announced.
It will feature music and lyrics by the creators of the film score -- Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez -- and a book by Jennifer Lee, the movie's screenwriter and co-director.
Peter Darling is choreographing the musical. Casting, Broadway dates and theater will be disclosed later.
With a vocal cast that included Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff, the 2013 animated blockbuster is about an isolated, Scandinavian queen with magical, ice-conjuring powers and an outgoing, sweet-natured sister who tries to coax her out of hiding. Songs from the soundtrack include "Let it Go" and "Do You Want a Build a Snowman?"
Disney is currently represented on Broadway by Aladdin and The Lion King.
