LOS ANGELES, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Angelina Jolie has reportedly gotten three new tattoos.

The 40-year-old American actress was spotted with fresh ink while filming First They Killed My Father Sunday in Cambodia.

The three designs cover Jolie's upper back and appear to be in the yantra style, a traditional form of Buddhist body art. Sources told People the trio of tattoos are Buddhist blessings for peace, love and a prosperous life.

Yantra tattoos feature intricate geometric designs and are typically performed by Buddhist monks or ruesi practitioners. Jolie already has several tattoos, including a large tiger on her lower back by famed Thai tattoo artist Sompong Kanphai.

"I love them. They're body art," the actress told Post Modern Ink magazine in 2010. "I don't think it's abnormal that someone who spends their life in other skins wants to claim their own by marking things on it that matter to them."

Jolie is adapting First They Killed My Father, a non-fiction book by Loung Ung, for Netflix. Her teenage son Maddox, who was adopted from Cambodia, is working with her on the movie, although she recently told Today she hopes her children don't become actors.

The actress and husband Brad Pitt also share sons Pax, Shiloh and Knox and daughters Zahara and Vivienne. She previously told Radio Times several of her children, including Maddox and Zahara, are interested in getting tattoos of their own.

"They're already asking me about tattoos. How I do say no?" the star said. "It's especially hard for dads and girls. For some reason men get a little more sensitive when the daughter gets a tattoo. And Brad thinks the girls can do no wrong. He's mush in their hands!"
