MONTREAL, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A funeral mass has been held at Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica for René Angélil, Céline Dion's husband of 21 years.
E! News said Dion, 47, wore a black dress and veil to the ceremony, which took place at the same church where she married Angélil.
The eldest of their three children, 14-year-old René-Charles, offered a heartfelt eulogy, but Dion did not speak or perform at the service, which was attended by hundreds of people and live-streamed online.
"Fifteen years is not a long time for a son to get to know his father," René-Charles, who has a birthday next week, told the mourners, revealing he and his dad bonded over golf, hockey and their love of smoked meat.
"And a lot of other wonderful food, bonding more and more as time went by," he added. "You left me now with enough good memories of you to share with my younger brothers. As they grow older without you being around, I'll make sure to pass on what I've learned from you. You are a tough act to follow, but with our help, everything is going to be fine. Dad, I promise you here that we're all going to live up to your standards."
The former singer, who was Dion's longtime manager, died Jan. 14 after battling throat cancer for more than a decade. He was 73.
Angélil and Dion also have 5-year-old twin sons and Angélil had three other children from previous marriages.
Two days after Angélil died, Dion's older brother Daniel passed away from the same disease.
