NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- All Broadway matinee and evening performances have been canceled Saturday due to the blizzard-induced ban on travel in New York City and suspension of public transportation by government authorities.

"Now that the snowstorm has arrived, I'd like to reiterate that the safety and security of theatergoers and employees is everyone's primary concern," Charlotte St. Martin, president of The Broadway League, said in a statement.

"As a result of the ban on travel in New York and the suspension of public transportation by government authorities and other safety precautions implemented on behalf of the weather, matinee and evening performances will be canceled today, Jan. 23. We expect normal operations to resume for tomorrow's Sunday matinees."

Among the impacted shows are Kinky Boots, Hamilton, Wicked, School of Rock, Finding Neverland, Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys, The Lion King, Aladdin and Les Miserables.
